Author bio
Tara Sue Me did not take a straight line into romance writing. She earned a degree in science, but she has said she always knew she would be happiest writing love stories. Long before the bestseller lists, she was already trying to figure out what kind of romance she wanted to tell, and how bold she was willing to be on the page.
At first, she wrote more traditional romances. Then she started reading alternate-universe Twilight fan fiction and decided to try something hotter. She has said she wanted to write a spicy story and, if she was going to do it, she was going to give it everything she had.
It took off.
That experiment became The Submissive, the story that first found a huge audience online before moving into print. Readers kept coming back for Abby King and Nathaniel West, and books like The Dominant, The Training, and The Enticement helped turn that first idea into a long-running world of connected characters, emotional power struggles, and very high heat.
She has also shared one of those small writer details people tend to remember: while working on The Submissive, she often took her laptop with her and wrote during one of her children’s dance classes. It is a funny picture, a writer quietly typing away in public while building an intensely private fictional world.
What readers usually respond to in her work is not just the steam. Her books are interested in trust, control, surrender, recovery, and the awkward, human work of asking for what you really want. Even when the stories are explicit, they are grounded in relationships. The emotional push and pull matters as much as the fantasy.
Over time, her range widened.
Alongside the Submissive books, she wrote the RACK Academy novels, including Master Professor, Headmaster, and Master of Pleasure. She also moved into contemporary romance with books like The Date Dare and Mister Irresistible, and into romantic suspense with Her Last Hello and the Benedict Brothers novels. Across those books, you can see the same interest in chemistry, complicated people, and relationships that do not come easy.
The success became very real. More than one million copies of her books have sold worldwide, and The Master was a finalist for the 2017 RITA Award for Best Erotic Romance. She has also said that the response to her early work allowed her to do what had long been the dream, write full time.
She lives in the southeastern United States with her family, two dogs, and a cat. She has joked that many people in her everyday life do not know her by her pen name, which somehow fits a writer who built a big career by quietly writing daring romance and letting readers spread the word.
