Lost in the Nether
by Cube Kid
2017
Eeebs disobeys his mother, gets separated from his friends, and tumbles through a portal into the fiery Nether. Guided by a mournful ghast and a sharp-tongued witch, he discovers strange new powers and a prophecy that says he must face a rogue Enderman.
Series background & context
Tales of an 8-Bit Kitten follows Eeebs, a restless village kitten whose curiosity literally drags him into another dimension. Told in a diary-style voice with full-color, game-inspired art, the series runs alongside Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior but looks at the same world through very different eyes.
In Lost in the Nether, Eeebs ignores his mother’s warnings and plays too deep in the forest. A game of hide-and-seek ends with wolves at his heels and a desperate leap through a glowing portal. On the other side he finds the Nether: a landscape of lava seas, strange fortresses, and mobs that don’t play by Overworld rules.
Scared and alone, he’s rescued by Clyde, a gloomy but kind ghast, and Eldra, a witch who is much more helpful than the witches Eeebs has heard about in stories. They explain that the Nether itself has marked him with new powers and a role in an ancient prophecy. Somewhere out there, a rogue enderman is preparing to seize control of both Nether and Overworld, and Eeebs is expected to help stop him.
Life in the Nether is part survival challenge, part school. Eeebs has to test mysterious abilities, learn the politics of places like Lavacrest, and figure out which mobs can be trusted. Along the way he discovers other “Nether kittens” and realizes he isn’t the only one the prophecy has touched, even if he’s still the least disciplined of the group.
The second book, A Call to Arms, shifts the focus toward the coming war. Now that Eeebs understands his place in the prophecy, he’s sent to Villagetown to support Runt and train with the Lost Legion. Fitting in with hardened soldiers, navigating new dungeons, and keeping his temper in check are as hard for him as fighting blazes or wither skeletons. His path crosses more directly with Runt’s, and readers start to see how the two series interlock.
Across both books, the tone stays fast and friendly: lots of jokes about game mechanics, plenty of action, and just enough danger to keep the pages turning. The series gives younger readers a hero who is impulsive, scared, brave, and loyal all at once—a kitten who has to grow into the role the Nether chose for him.
It’s a great fit for kids who already love Diary of an 8-Bit Warrior and want more time in Minecraftia, especially anyone who thinks cats make the best main characters.
