Brink of Chaos

Two weeks after the EMP, Lauren Wallace and the town of Unicoi hunker behind hastily built walls, short on food and trust. Injured and exhausted, Sam finds shelter in Franklin, North Carolina, until outsiders refuse to leave and threaten to drag both communities into fresh chaos.
Series background & context
Survive the Collapse follows former police detective Sam Wallace and his family through an EMP strike that plunges the eastern United States into darkness. The first book, Brink of Darkness, opens with Sam escorting a protected witness hundreds of miles from home when the power goes out and every vehicle around them dies. At the same time his wife Lauren and his teenage son Charlie are stranded near an airport with no safe way to get back to their small town in Tennessee.
Sam knows how dangerous the world can be even on a normal day, and now he has to keep his witness alive while also fighting his way home on foot and by any transport he can scavenge. Lauren and Charlie face their own gauntlet of rising violence, closed roads and strangers who do not always mean well. The sense that nowhere is truly safe runs through every chapter.
In Brink of Chaos the story settles for a moment on the town of Unicoi, where Lauren and other residents throw up walls and try to create a defensible refuge. Food is short, medicine scarcer and nerves are frayed as refugees show up looking for shelter. Sam, injured and exhausted from his trek, finds temporary sanctuary in nearby North Carolina, only to run into new trouble when outsiders refuse to leave peacefully.
The series leans into the idea that the real battle after a collapse is often over who gets to decide the rules. Corrupt leaders, opportunists and outright traitors all see an opening in the vacuum left by a dead grid. Neighbors who once argued over small town politics now have to choose whether they will accept that new order or resist it.
Later installments continue the arc as Unicoi and the broader region slide toward open conflict. Residents seek shelter at Camp Wallace, a fortified refuge tied to Sam's family, and the Wallaces are forced to go on offense against the Corbin organization and other threats that refuse to leave them alone. Missions beyond the camp fence bring epidemics, political attention and hard moral decisions into play.
One of the strengths of Survive the Collapse is how it balances action with the grind of day to day survival. You see characters patching bullet holes and roofs in the same breath, hunting for medicine one chapter and worrying about planting crops the next. The EMP event may kick everything off, but the real story is how Sam, Lauren, Charlie and their neighbors keep choosing each other in a world that keeps trying to break them apart.
If you are looking for an EMP series that mixes family drama, small town politics and larger regional stakes, Survive the Collapse is designed to feel like one long, escalating fight to hold on to home.
