Series background & context

The Summer Sisters books are three connected contemporary romances about women rebuilding their lives while love arrives at exactly the wrong, or perhaps most useful, moment. The series has the easy familiarity of a family gathering, but the characters are dealing with real complications beneath the warm surface.

The first book, The Doctor's Do-Over, introduces a romance shaped by unfinished history. Ryder Caldwell wants a second chance with Melanie Duncan, but old hurt and the demands of daily life make that far more complicated than simply picking up where they left off. The books that follow keep the focus on people who have to decide whether the past gets the final word.

Home improvement, weddings, and family events give the trilogy its momentum. In A Gift for All Seasons, a landscaping job brings two people into close contact while a new home becomes a place where both practical work and emotional change can happen. The Marriage Campaign turns a double wedding into a setting where old expectations and new feelings are impossible to ignore.

These are romances about grown-ups with baggage.

Templeton keeps the conflicts close to home. Her characters are not usually fighting villains or facing huge outside plots. They are trying to communicate honestly, manage family pressures, and make peace with the choices that brought them to this point. That makes the emotional stakes feel personal and immediate.

The three books are linked by relationships and a shared community, while each has its own couple and complete romantic arc. Readers can start with any title, but beginning with The Doctor's Do-Over gives the best sense of the connections that develop across the series.

Expect a relaxed contemporary-romance tone with humor, tenderness, and plenty of family involvement. It is a compact series for readers who enjoy second chances, familiar faces, and love stories built around the idea that a new beginning often starts with showing up.
