Series background & context
Street Rats of Aramoor is a coming of age fantasy series that follows Ayrion, a young warrior in training who is forced out of his mountain homeland and into the teeming streets of the royal city of Aramoor. The books are set in the same world as The Aldoran Chronicles but take place roughly twenty years earlier, showing how a future Guardian Protector learned to survive when he had nothing.
In Banished Ayrion is desperate to become the youngest warrior of his Upakan clan. One tragic accident involving forbidden magic destroys that dream and puts a target on his back. He escapes aboard a ship that most people consider cursed, trading the familiar snows of his homeland for crowded docks, river routes, and the dangerous road to Aramoor.
Once he reaches the city, the story shifts from open seas to tangled alleys and rooftop chases.
Aramoor's lower city is ruled by tribes of street kids who fight, steal, and bargain for territory under the watchful eye of the city's guilds. Ayrion finds a home with Hurricane, a rough tribe that slowly becomes a family, and the later books introduce rival groups like Sandstorm and Avalanche as the struggle for food, shelter, and safety gets sharper. Friends such as the healer Reevie and the sharp tongued Sapphire give the series its heart, balancing knife fights and schemes with quiet scenes of care.
Each book adds a new layer of responsibility. Hurricane throws Ayrion into the middle of Aramoor's street politics. Rockslide forces him to stand between his tribe and the guild that holds them in debt, pushing him toward desperate, high risk plans. In Sandstorm and Wildfire he is pulled into the Elondrian Lancers and sent on missions for the crown, even as he tries to keep his promise to protect the children back home. By Avalanche he is caught between looming wars, knowing that every choice he makes could cost either his soldiers or his street family their lives.
Throughout it all, Ayrion is learning what kind of leader he wants to be, and what price he is willing to pay to do the right thing.
The tone of the series stays fast paced and adventurous, with plenty of banter and narrow escapes, but it does not shy away from darker turns as Ayrion grows older. Readers get a close look at dockside markets, guild halls, gambling pits, and hidden tunnels underneath the city. For anyone planning to read The Aldoran Chronicles, these books act as a ground level tour of Aramoor and a rich backstory for one of its key heroes, but they also stand on their own as a full arc from exile to hard won belonging.
