As they fight to save the island, Kip must choose between his old life and a love anchored in another time.

Series background & context

The Storm Tide books combine Eden’s love of historical settings with a time slip premise, sending modern or near modern characters tumbling into the past along a rugged coastline. Each story stands alone but is linked by themes of second chances, healing, and the way love can bridge even the widest gaps in time.

In The Tides of Time, French seamstress Lili Minet is helping people escape the guillotine during the height of the Revolution. Fleeing arrest, she is caught in a violent storm at sea and washes ashore on a British island in 1873. To her shock, everyday objects and technology reveal that she has somehow leapt forward eighty years. Armitage Pierce, the reserved lighthouse keeper who rescues her, is torn between suspicion and compassion as he shelters this woman who seems out of step with the world around her. As they work together and grow closer, danger from Lili’s original era seeps into her new life, forcing both of them to decide what they are willing to risk for each other.

Echoes of the Sea visits the same island generations later. Modern day actor Kipling Summerfield, nursing a bruised career and ego, accepts a job as a historical reenactor on Guilford Island. A sudden storm tosses him into the ocean and into the care of people who appear to be part of a very immersive production. As he slowly realizes he has slipped back to the early nineteenth century and meets Amelia Archibald, a reluctant island resident afraid of the sea, his assumptions about time, fate, and home are upended.

Across the series, Guilford Island itself becomes a character, with its lighthouse, dangerous waters, and close knit community tying together stories that span centuries. The books blend gentle romance with suspense, touching on grief, survivor’s guilt, and the disorientation of being unmoored from one’s own time.

Readers do not have to be familiar with Eden’s other works to enjoy Storm Tide, but fans will recognize her trademarks here, careful historical detail, emotionally grounded relationships, and a focus on people learning to trust again even when the future looks uncertain.
