Stoker & Holmes Books in Order

Stoker & Holmes is one of those series where the elevator pitch tells you a lot, and somehow not nearly enough. Sherlock Holmes's niece and Bram Stoker's sister team up in an alternate Victorian London filled with mystery, danger, gadgets, and the occasional vampire problem. If that sounds like a lot, it is. It is also a lot of fun.

The two leads are Mina Holmes and Evaline Stoker. Mina is the more deductive one, sharp-minded and logical, very much in the Holmes tradition. Evaline is more physical and instinctive, with a family link to vampire hunting that gives her a different kind of edge. They do not begin as natural best friends. In fact, part of the appeal is that they have to learn how to work together despite rivalry, different methods, and the heavy baggage that comes with famous names.

That tension keeps the series lively.

The setting is not straight historical fiction. It is steampunk London, meaning familiar Victorian streets are mixed with inventions, odd devices, hidden networks, and a slightly heightened atmosphere. The books pull in royal intrigue, sinister artifacts, criminal masterminds, and long-running enemies, so the stakes feel bigger than a single case while still keeping the mystery structure intact. A missing girl, a stolen message, a strange object, a murder charge, each book begins with a problem that quickly opens into something larger.

What makes the series work especially well is that it does not rely only on its premise. Yes, it is clever to pair Holmes and Stoker family connections. But Gleason also gives Mina and Evaline different strengths, blind spots, and emotional pressures. They are young women expected to behave properly in a world that keeps demanding bravery, secrecy, and quick thinking. That contrast between social expectations and real danger drives a lot of the energy.

There is a larger arc running through the books too, including recurring villains, growing trust between the heroines, and changing relationships with the people around them. The stories have romance at the edges, but the heart of the series is the partnership. Watching Mina and Evaline become better allies is just as satisfying as seeing them crack the case.

If you like YA that is adventurous, a little gothic, a little playful, and full of motion, this series delivers. Expect foggy streets, clocks and engines, secrets in high places, and two heroines who keep getting pulled into trouble because they are some of the few people clever and brave enough to handle it.
