Author bio

Stephen Taylor was born in 1968 in Walthamstow, London, and has spent most of his life in Norfolk on the east coast of England. He still lives there with his wife Emma and their two children, Adam and Sophie.

As a kid in Norfolk he gravitated to big, punchy stories. He tore through action novels and, later on, discovered modern thriller heroes like Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp and Tom Wood's Victor, along with a steady diet of high-octane films like Die Hard, the Daniel Craig Bond run, Lock Stock and Snatch.

Fast, unapologetic action with a streak of humour became the flavour he wanted from his own stories too.

Before he ever sat down to write a novel, Taylor spent years running his own business installing audio visual systems in homes and offices. It was hands-on work that took him into all kinds of houses and boardrooms, but the itch to tell stories never really went away.

As his fiftieth birthday started to loom, that itch turned into a decision. He pulled together his love of military thrillers, crime fiction and action movies and wrote the book he had always wanted to read, Execution of Faith. The novel introduces ex-SAS soldier Danny Pearson, still grieving the loss of his wife and son, who gets dragged into a plot involving mercenary killers, terrorism and the balance of world power.

Readers responded, and instead of leaving it there he went back in Danny's timeline and wrote the prequel that became Vodka Over London Ice (originally released as Vodka and Jellied Eels). Set in the London underworld, that story throws Danny into a turf war between his uncle Harry Knight's firm and the Russian mafia, with family loyalty and survival on the line.

From there the Danny Pearson series grew quickly, moving from gangland feuds to global conspiracies. In Who Holds The Power Danny crosses paths with a secret organization known as the Board and a lethal Chinese assassin; in Alive Until I Die he is sent undercover to infiltrate a former friend's special forces team after a cache of experimental weapons goes missing. Later books such as Sport of Kings, Blood Runs Deep, Command to Kill, No Upper Limit and Leave Nothing to Chance take him from the Norfolk coast to Moscow, Australia and South America, mixing drug smugglers, arms dealers, rogue generals and cartel bosses. By the time the series had run to several books it had sold well over 250,000 copies across ebook, print and audio, and found an audience among readers who like their thrillers lean and direct.

Alongside the full-length novels, Taylor has also written a run of short, sharp adventures featuring Danny, collected in the sequence that includes Snipe, Heavy Traffic, The Timekeepers Box and The Book Signing, giving new readers an easy way to sample the series.

Across all of these stories, Danny Pearson is the constant thread, carrying the weight of his past while doing whatever it takes to protect friends, family and bystanders who stumble into harm's way. Taylor keeps the focus on tight pacing, clean set pieces and banter between characters who feel like old comrades rather than untouchable heroes. When he is not writing, he is still a fan first, reaching for the same kind of thrillers and action films that helped shape his own work.
