Series background & context

Three friends, three large blue diamonds, and a dangerous criminal plot link the Stars of Mithra trilogy. Bailey James, M. J. O'Leary, and Grace Fontaine each become involved in a different part of the same mystery. Their romances develop with men trying to understand what has happened and whom they can trust. The stones provide the shared thread, while missing memories, false accusations, and concealed information give each book its own immediate problem.

Hidden Star begins with Bailey unable to remember who she is. A bag containing money, a gun, and a remarkable diamond gives her reason to believe she's in serious trouble, but it doesn't explain the kind of trouble. She seeks help from private investigator Cade Parris. He must work from what she can tell him and what the evidence suggests, even as his feelings begin to complicate the professional distance between them.

Bailey needs answers before she can explain herself.

Captive Star follows M. J. and bounty hunter Jack Dakota. Jack initially believes he is collecting a woman who has jumped bail. The situation changes when it becomes clear that someone has set them up and killers are pursuing them. M. J. has a blue diamond and reasons for keeping information to herself. Being forced into close company doesn't make trust automatic, especially when each has begun with assumptions about the other.

Secret Star turns to Grace and Lieutenant Seth Buchanan. Seth's homicide investigation takes an unexpected direction when the woman he believed was the victim appears alive. Grace is an heiress with secrets, and Seth has a job that requires him to get beyond her public image. His attraction to her becomes another complication in a case where accepting an easy explanation could be dangerous. The final book continues the wider mystery without repeating the first two couples' circumstances.

The trilogy's structure gives the friends separate points of view on a shared threat. One woman lacks crucial memories, another is treated as a fugitive, and the third confronts an investigator's mistaken understanding of a crime. Those openings create different kinds of uncertainty. The romances ask the men and women to look beyond appearances while the suspense plot makes that same effort a matter of survival.

Read Hidden Star, Captive Star, and Secret Star in order to follow the connected events. This is romantic suspense, with investigation, pursuit, and secrecy carrying as much weight as the developing relationships. The diamonds are extraordinary objects, but the basic emotional questions are familiar: how much to reveal, when to accept help, and whether attraction can coexist with caution. Readers who enjoy linked mysteries with a featured couple in each book will find a clear continuing thread through the three stories.
