Star Cat Books in Order

The Star Cat series begins with one of those premises that sounds like a joke until you realize the author is absolutely going for it. Jelly Anderson is a house cat, but not an ordinary one. In the future world of these books, scientists pick up a strange signal connected to Saturn and discover that cats, especially female cats, respond to it in a way humans cannot explain. So a contest is created to find the right feline for a rescue mission. Jelly wins, and a space opera is born.

That setup powers Infinity Claws, where Jelly leaves Earth and her young owner Jamie Anderson behind to join the crew of Space Opera Beta under the corporate space outfit USARIC. It is funny because, yes, a cat is going to space. But Mackay takes the consequences seriously enough that the joke turns into a real adventure. The crew is not just babysitting a pet. They are betting that this animal is the key to understanding a distress call and whatever is waiting near Saturn.

From there, the series grows fast. Pink Symphony brings the crew deeper into danger as strange forces, claustrophobic shipboard tension, and the possibility of a universe-changing discovery collide. War Mage pushes Jelly into a new and more dangerous phase, with the crew trying to train her for survival while alien threats close in. By the middle books, Killer Instinct and Exodus, the story is no longer just about a mission gone wrong. It is about mutation, war, corporate lies, and whether Earth is ready for what the Star Cat project has unleashed.

Jelly is the heart of it all, but the humans matter too. Jamie's bond with her gives the series an emotional anchor, and the crew around her supplies a lot of the banter, panic, and loyalty that keep the books moving. Mackay likes noisy group dynamics, and the shipboard cast gives him plenty to work with. There are arguments, secrets, weird tech, hostile creatures, and just enough snark to stop the story from becoming overly solemn.

The later books turn the scale up again. Star Cat Forever brings Jelly back toward Earth as something much tougher and much less controllable than the pet who left it. By then, USARIC wants answers, rebels want leverage, and Jelly has her own agenda. The prequel novella Training Day loops back to show how the mission prepared her for space in the first place, which is a nice reminder that even the wildest parts of this series start with training, systems, and people who think they are in charge.

Tone matters here. Star Cat is fast, strange, and often very funny, but it is not weightless. The stakes get real, the violence can be sharp, and Jelly's journey keeps shifting from cute to uncanny to fierce. If you like space opera that is willing to be silly, heartfelt, and a little feral all at once, this series has a very clear identity.
