Space Rocks Books in Order

The Space Rocks! series is an alien adventure told from a point of view readers do not often get. Chorkle is a young Xotonian living on Gelo, an asteroid whose quiet life is disrupted when humans arrive with mining machines to take its iridium. To Chorkle, the newcomers are strange-looking, noisy, and impossible to understand.

Then four human children are left behind.

Hollins, twins Becky and Nicki, and Little Gus are stranded after the human mothership departs. Chorkle first gets to know them through their gadgets, including games and devices that help bridge the language gap. Before long, Chorkle becomes their guide and reluctant protector, trying to help them survive on Gelo while also figuring out whether the humans can be trusted.

The first book, Space Rocks!, gets much of its humor from the culture clash between Chorkle and the kids. The human children know about things that are unfamiliar to Chorkle, while Chorkle knows the local terrain, creatures, tunnels, and dangers. They encounter rocket bikes, strange animals, and the everyday oddities of Xotonian life. But the danger is real, especially when the Vorem, a frightening rival alien force, becomes part of the picture.

Chorkle tells the story with an energetic, sometimes exasperated voice. That perspective keeps the series grounded in the idea that nobody automatically looks like the hero from the other side of a conflict. The children are not simply invaders or helpless tourists, and Chorkle is not simply their alien sidekick. They have to learn how to communicate, make room for each other’s strengths, and stay together when the larger conflict closes in.

In For the Love of Gelo!, the group is warped into another galaxy. When their ally Kalac is stranded on the neighboring planet Kyral, Chorkle and the human kids set out on a rescue mission. The journey brings new species, unfamiliar terrain, and alliances that are not always obvious at first glance, while the group still hopes to find a path back home.

Expect a space adventure with jokes, imaginative creatures, and plenty of action. The two books work best in order, since the second builds on the friendships, rivalries, and intergalactic stakes introduced in Space Rocks!.
