Series background & context

Get Your Rocks Off is one of Sam Hall's most deliberately mash-up series. It takes fae romance, rock-star fantasy, small-town frustration, and personal transformation, then throws them together with very little interest in playing nice. The result is bright, unruly, and built around the feeling that the heroine's old life is too small to survive contact with what is coming.

That heroine is Kira.

She starts out in Gisbourne, feeling boxed in by family, by local expectations, and by the sense that everyone has already decided who she is. Then a photography job at an Avalon Records launch puts her in front of the Changelings, a band whose beauty and energy are too strange to explain away. Kira has been taught to dismiss the supernatural. Her camera starts proving that reality may be a lot less sensible than she was promised.

That music-world angle gives the series its own flavor. The glamour is not courtly in the usual fantasy sense. It is louder, sexier, and more public. Stages, launches, crowds, obsession, and image matter. But Hall does not use the band simply as decoration. The Changelings are tied to the deeper fae story, and Kira's growing connection to them turns into a broader question about identity, magic, and what she herself may be becoming.

The books keep widening the frame. What begins as fascination and attraction becomes entanglement with fae politics, destiny, and a world that was always running beside the human one. Kira's journey matters because she does not just discover a secret. She is changed by it. The tension comes from whether she can claim that change on her own terms.

So the series has a different rhythm from Hall's pack books. It is less about one town or one fixed group and more about glamour, danger, spectacle, and the thrilling wrongness of being drawn toward people who shine too brightly to be human. If you like your fantasy romance a bit wild, a bit musical, and very willing to mix longing with chaos, Get Your Rocks Off is a fun corner of her catalogue.
