Sophie Dawson had stories in her head long before she put them on the page. She has said that she imagined them throughout childhood, but did not begin typing them into books until 2011.
That later start gave her a clear sense of what she wanted to write. Her early novels were historical romances with Christian themes, often built around people who have been hurt, displaced, or handed a life they did not expect. They are looking for safety, work, family, and a chance to begin again.
Her first published series, Cottonwood, begins with Healing Love, set in Iowa in 1875. A young woman fleeing an arranged marriage and a country doctor are pushed into an awkward marriage after town gossip gets ahead of the truth. The following books, including Lord's Love and the collaborative Redeeming Love, keep returning to the community of Cottonwood, where faith, responsibility, and romance all have a place at the table.
Dawson also writes western historical romance. In the Stones Creek books, the Civil War may be over, but its survivors still carry it with them into a Colorado town trying to make room for newcomers. Leah's Peace, Chasing Norie, and Chloe's Sanctuary combine ranch life, small-town danger, second chances, and relationships that grow slowly under pressure.
Then she tried something different.
Her contemporary Love's Infestation trilogy, beginning with Mold and Marriage, finds romance in very unglamorous problems. An explosion, an unruly pack of Dalmatian puppies, and a fear of mice all become starting points for stories about people learning to trust again. The titles have a wink to them, but the books still focus on healing, family, and faith.
Dawson has also taken part in several shared historical-romance worlds. Her contributions include the Java Cupid, Lockets & Lace, Pinkerton Matchmaker, and Silverpines series. Those books let her pair familiar romance setups, such as marriages of convenience and mail-order matches, with mysteries, rebuilding towns, detective work, and women determined to make their own way.
Before writing fiction, Dawson did needlework and worked professionally as a machine quilter. That practical, hands-on interest appears naturally in details such as lace making, dress shops, mercantiles, and the everyday work that keeps a household or small town going.
She has lived with her husband on a farm in western Illinois. She has also shared that she enjoys reading, travel, gardening, sewing, and a little time with computer games. Her books keep coming back to the same hopeful idea: hard seasons matter, but they do not have to be the end of the story.
