Silverpines (Sophie Dawson) Books in Order

Silverpines is a multi-author historical-romance series set in Oregon in 1899, after disaster has changed the town almost overnight. An earthquake, a mine cave-in, and a mudslide leave Silverpines short of working men and full of women trying to keep homes, businesses, ranches, and families afloat. Many of them turn to newspaper advertisements in search of help, partnership, and sometimes a husband.

The premise gives the series a strong sense of place. Silverpines is damaged but still standing. Its people have to rebuild streets and buildings while also deciding what kind of town they want it to become. That shared recovery connects stories that focus on different couples and occupations.

In Wanted: Shopkeeper, Millie Messer is raising four children and running a mercantile after her husband's death in the disaster. She advertises for a husband who can help with the store and family. Clay Cutler answers, but his arrival with five children of his own turns Millie's hoped-for solution into a crowded household of nine children, two grieving parents, and secrets that could put them at risk.

Wanted: Bookkeeper follows Tilde Lasek, who has taken on the family bank after losing her father and brother. She needs help but does not ask for a banker. Instead, she advertises for a bookkeeper. Joel Richards arrives with banking experience and ideas for change, but Tilde, her mother, and the town itself have strong feelings about who should make decisions and how quickly things should move.

In Wanted: Developer, a fire means Silverpines must rebuild again. Denver Hughes has come to town as its city developer, only to watch his plans literally go up in smoke. Widow Belle Stewart, a mother of two, is looking for work when an offhand comment opens the possibility of becoming Denver's assistant. Their relationship develops alongside the work of redesigning a wounded town.

Dawson's Silverpines books are clean historical romances about blended families, work, rebuilding, and second chances. They can be read independently, but Wanted: Shopkeeper, Wanted: Bookkeeper, and Wanted: Developer show different stages in the town's recovery. Start with Wanted: Shopkeeper for the earliest of her visits to Silverpines.
