Series background & context

Lockets & Lace is a multi-author historical-romance series linked by a jewelry shop in St. Joseph, Missouri. A locket and some form of lace appear in each story, creating a small but meaningful thread between otherwise independent romances. Sophie Dawson contributed Pearl's Will and Driving Lillian.

The Bavarian Jewelry and Watch Shop is the shared anchor. It was established in St. Joseph in the 1850s, and the series uses the shop as a place where people come to buy, repair, choose, or discover objects that carry personal meaning. A locket can hold a memory, a promise, or a question about where someone belongs.

Lace brings another kind of detail to the stories.

In Pearl's Will, set in St. Joseph in 1910, Pearl makes Irish crochet lace and sells it through Will's shop to supplement her income. Her skilled work and the shop create a reason for Pearl and Will to spend time together. The story also includes the making of an Irish-lace wedding gown, using an old-fashioned craft as part of a romance about work, independence, and partnership.

Driving Lillian is a Ryder Legacy novella. Lillian Miller is young, impulsive, and eager to try anything that catches her attention, even when better judgment would suggest otherwise. Dr. Vernon Strasser has newly arrived in St. Joseph to establish himself as a physician. He values caution, and meeting Lillian tests his ability to stay focused, especially when her appetite for adventure puts her in danger.

The wider series shifts between different couples and authors, so it does not require readers to follow one continuous plot. What carries across is the historical setting, the St. Joseph connection, and the way a piece of jewelry or handmade lace becomes part of an important turning point.

Dawson's entries are well suited to readers who like practical historical details alongside clean romance. Pearl's Will is the best place to start with her Lockets & Lace work, especially for readers drawn to textile crafts and early twentieth-century settings. Follow it with Driving Lillian for a livelier, more impulsive heroine and a physician who has to learn that caution is not the same as living.
