Series background & context

Soldiers and Soulmates is a Regency series where military service leaves a lasting mark. Aston brings officers and veterans back from war and then places them in the middle of inheritance problems, damaged households, grieving women, and practical responsibilities that feel almost as daunting as battle.

Peace does not make life simple.

The heroes in these books carry guilt, habits of command, or scars that do not vanish once they change out of uniform. The heroines are often in equally vulnerable positions. Some are widows. Some are displaced. Some have had to hold families or households together with very little support. That shared weariness gives the romance a mature feel. These are not people falling in love in a vacuum. They are trying to rebuild lives.

Aston also likes to weave children and caretaking into this series. Guardianship, schools, and responsibility for younger family members shape more than one story, which gives the books an extra thread of domestic warmth. Love here is not only passion. It is also safety, steadiness, and the willingness to shoulder burdens together.

If you like Regency romance with war-shadowed heroes, intelligent heroines, and plots that care about emotional healing as much as courtship, Soldiers and Soulmates is worth a look. The books work on their own, but together they create a world where duty and tenderness keep colliding until the right couple finally gets it right.
