Small Change Books in Order

The Small Change series is a pair of connected Philadelphia romances set around a tattoo shop, a neighborhood cafe, and the messy work of letting other people matter. The books share characters and take place in the wider world of the Middle of Somewhere stories, but each romance has its own couple and its own emotional center.

Small Change follows Ginger Holtzman, a tattoo artist and shop owner who has fought hard for professional respect, financial stability, and the right to make art on her own terms. She is busy enough to avoid noticing how lonely she is. Christopher Lucen runs a coffee and sandwich shop nearby after years of moving from place to place. He wants community, and he recognizes something worth caring about in Ginger almost immediately.

Ginger and Christopher are opposites in useful ways. She is guarded, fiercely independent, and used to doing all the hard things herself. He is patient, openhearted, and much more willing to say what he wants. Their relationship has plenty of attraction, but its real conflict is Ginger's fear of needing anyone when her work, her friendships, and her plans all begin to feel unsteady.

Invitation to the Blues turns to Christopher's brother Jude. Eight months after a suicide attempt, Jude has left Boston, his former partner, and his music career behind. Back in Philadelphia, he feels like a failure and has trouble imagining a future. Faron Locklear has come to the city for a fresh start and is working as a tattoo artist at Small Change. He sees Jude's talent and his hurt, but their relationship cannot fix everything for either man.

The books make room for healing without rushing it.

This is a more emotionally intense series than its tattoo-shop premise might suggest. Mental health, recovery, creative ambition, sexuality, friendship, and chosen family are all part of the ongoing texture. The stories are also warm and sensual, with food, art, music, and neighborhood routines grounding the heavier moments.
