Skeleton Island Books in Order

Skeleton Island is one of Kaylea Cross's newer series, so there is less long-range context available than there is for her older connected worlds. Even so, the books already suggest a darker romantic suspense line built around an isolated setting and dangerous discoveries.

The titles tell part of the story. Mortal Remains, Killer Remains, and Shallow Remains point toward investigations shaped by the discovery of human remains, old crimes that refuse to stay buried, and the kind of threat that grows nastier the deeper someone digs. Combined with the series name, the promise is pretty clear, remote location, ugly history, and present-day danger.

That setup fits Cross well. She has always been good at taking capable characters, putting them in high-risk situations, and forcing them to rely on one another while the ground keeps shifting under their feet. An island setting naturally raises the pressure. Escape is harder. Secrets last longer. Isolation becomes part of the suspense.

Because the series is still early, it feels like a good place for readers who want to jump into a fresh branch of her work without catching up on a dozen backlist titles first. There is room for the world to widen, but the mood already looks distinct, darker, more enclosed, and more overtly investigation driven.
