If you want taboo priest romances: Priest → Midnight Mass → Sinner → Saint.
If you love political fairy-tale triads: American Queen → American Prince → American King → Cards of Love: The Moon.
If you prefer gothic, group-centered drama: A Lesson in Thorns → Feast of Sparks → Harvest of Sighs → Door of Bruises.
If you are curious about her historical kink: The Awakening of Ivy Leavold → The Education of Ivy Leavold → The Punishment of Ivy Leavold.
If you want lighter co-written rom-com heat: A Merry Little Meet Cute → A Holly Jolly Ever After → Seas and Greetings.
Author bio
Sierra Simone is a USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling romance author who started out as a library employee reading paperbacks at the information desk and wondering if she could write stories of her own. Today she lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, two children, two giant dogs, and a pair of mischievous cats, still surrounded by stacks of books.
She talks often about being a voracious reader, happily bouncing between what she calls “the smuttiest smut,” piles of nonfiction for research, and old-fashioned novels full of brooding widowers. That wide reading habit feeds straight into her work. Her books pull from theology, history, politics, folklore, and pop culture, then funnel everything into romances that are both very emotional and very explicit.
Before writing full time, she held a grab bag of jobs: firing ceramics in a studio kiln, teaching living history lessons in a one-room schoolhouse while dressed like a 1904 schoolmarm, and working several years in public libraries. The library work, especially, gave her a front-row seat to what readers actually loved and how people talked about tropes, which later shaped how she thought about genre, marketing, and reader expectations.
Her breakout contemporary, Priest, is a taboo erotic romance about Father Tyler Bell, a Catholic priest whose crisis of faith collides with an intense, consensual affair. That book grew into the Priest collection, which now includes the follow-up novella Midnight Mass and the related novels Sinner and Saint, each about one of the Bell brothers wrestling with desire, belief, and vocation. Readers come to these books for the heat, but they stay for the way Simone lets her characters argue with God, grief, and guilt on the page.
Another major pillar of her work is the New Camelot trilogy, beginning with American Queen. In those books, Simone reimagines King Arthur as a modern political love triangle set around a fictional White House, where Greer Galloway, President Ash Colchester, and Vice President Embry Moore build a high-stakes MMF relationship under the glare of power and public life. Follow-up novellas like Cards of Love: The Moon and American Squire deepen that world with side characters, Arthurian echoes, and more kink-forward, polyamorous dynamics.
Simone also writes lush, high-spice historicals. The Markham Hall trilogy and its companion London Lovers duet follow Ivy Leavold, Julian Markham, and later Molly O’Flaherty and Silas Cecil-Coke through Victorian estates, scandalous marriages, and gothic mysteries on the Yorkshire moors. More recently, her Far Hope Stories have taken readers to another lonely English estate for stand-alone novellas about dukes, highwaymen, ruthless abbesses, and the people who fall for them.
On the contemporary side, the Thornchapel quartet and the Lyonesse trilogy show just how big her imagination can go. Thornchapel is a queer, kinky dark-academia saga about a circle of friends bound together by pagan-flavored rituals, foggy moors, and a fate that keeps demanding more from them. Lyonesse, set partly in Washington, DC’s most secretive sex club, retells the Tristan and Isolde legend as an MMF romance about a ruthless club owner, his arranged bride, and the bodyguard caught between them.
Collaboration is another big part of her career. With Laurelin Paige she has written irreverent, extremely steamy contemporaries like Porn Star and Hot Cop. With Julie Murphy she co-created the Christmas Notch universe and the upcoming Academic Affairs series, swapping between raunchy small-town holiday rom-coms and a college-town nanny romance while keeping the focus on sex-positive, often plus-size and queer characters who get to be both messy and loved.
Across all of these projects, Simone’s stories tend to circle a few recurring obsessions: power and surrender, the way belief systems shape desire, and what it costs to step outside the roles a family or community has assigned. Her characters are usually painfully self-aware, sometimes morally gray, but they are always reaching for a love big enough to hold their flaws. The kink is explicit, the emotions are big, and consent is treated as part of the erotic charge rather than an afterthought.
When she is not drafting or revising, she has said she loves King Arthur retellings, sparkling water, Tarot cards, coffee, leggings, and foggy days, along with learning new words just for the pleasure of how they sound. It is not unusual for her to be researching some obscure medieval religious practice one week and making a Spotify playlist for a bodyguard romance the next. That blend of curiosity and play is part of why so many readers trust that, whatever boundary she pushes in a new book, she will build a world that feels thoughtful, inviting, and just a little bit dangerous.
