American Queen

by Sierra Simone

2016

Caught between two powerful men who love each other as fiercely as they love her, she becomes the queen in a taboo modern Camelot.

Series background & context

New Camelot is Sierra Simone’s modern, very erotic answer to the Arthurian legend. Instead of knights and castles, you get a fictional White House, security briefings, and motorcades. Instead of a simple triangle, you get a complicated MMF relationship that asks what loyalty and love look like when the stakes are national rather than merely personal.

The trilogy opens with American Queen, told from the point of view of Greer Galloway. Greer grows up as the sharp-eyed granddaughter of a former vice president, more comfortable with policy papers than with dating. Twice she breaks the “keep your kisses to yourself” warning she was given as a girl - once with young soldier Maxen Ashley “Ash” Colchester, and once with his best friend Embry Moore. Years later, Ash is President, Embry is his Vice President, and Greer finds herself drawn into their orbit again when Ash sends Embry to bring her to Washington. The book charts her slow realization that the only honest future for any of them might be one they share.

American Prince shifts the narrative to Embry, exploring his wartime history with Ash, his uneasy public role as golden-boy politician, and his deep, sometimes painful devotion to both his king and queen. With Greer captured and political crises mounting, Embry has to confront old betrayals and decide how much of himself he is willing to sacrifice for the people he loves and the country he serves.

American King brings all three perspectives together as secrets and prophecies collide. Simone leans harder into the lightly magical, almost mythic side of the story here while still keeping the focus on tangible things like security threats, media scandals, and the logistics of maintaining a triad at the highest levels of power. The ending is both devastating and cathartic, aiming for a sense of earned inevitability that mirrors the old legends while still surprising modern romance readers.

Two shorter works round out the world. Cards of Love: The Moon tells the story of Merlin and Nimue, side characters whose long, tragic bond stretches across lifetimes and tangles directly with the events of American King. American Squire follows a secondary character on a visit to Thornchapel, serving as a crossover between New Camelot and Simone’s later gothic series. Both pieces reward readers who want more glimpses of this universe without demanding that you commit to another long trilogy.

On this page, you will find the recommended reading order, a sense of how the political and magical threads weave together, and pointers to Lyonesse, a later trilogy set in the same larger world. If you like your romance with presidents, prophecies, and a very tangled crown, New Camelot is the place to start.
