Selfish

A beach vacation fling is all Ashlyn expects when she hooks up with a gorgeous stranger before moving across the country. Then Ryder walks into her hotel room as her best friend’s brother, determined to turn one reckless night into something neither of them planned on.
Series background & context
The Selfish series follows a small group of friends whose lives are tangled together by love, bad timing, and the kind of loyalty that doesn’t always look pretty from the outside. Each book focuses on a different couple, but the emotional threads connect across the trilogy.
Selfish begins with Ashlyn, who is supposed to be enjoying one last carefree beach trip before moving from Seattle to New York. A one-night stand with a gorgeous stranger seems harmless—until she discovers he’s Ryder, her best friend’s brother and a work-obsessed executive who isn’t interested in letting her walk away.
In Myself, Becca comes back into the orbit of Jaycent, the man who stepped aside when she chose someone else. He did what she asked even when it broke him, and now that life has handed them another chance, he’s not interested in keeping his distance just because it would be easier.
Selfless rounds out the series with another friend learning what it actually means to put someone else first. Past mistakes, family expectations, and lingering guilt push the characters to grow up, own the ways they’ve hurt each other, and decide what real partnership should look like.
Compared to Tessier’s darkest work, these stories sit closer to the contemporary side of the spectrum—still steamy, still dramatic, but grounded in careers, long-distance moves, and families who have opinions about everything. They’re about people who are used to protecting themselves learning how to be a little selfish and a little selfless at the right time.
