Series background & context

The Lords series—often styled as L.O.R.D.S.—is Tessier’s sprawling dark college world, built around a secret society that owns Barrington University from the shadows. The Lords sign their lives away young, trading blood and obedience for power, money, and the right to play by their own rules.

At the heart of that power structure are the Spade brothers and their oath: I Vow. You Vow. We Vow. Young women from the same privileged world are paired with them as Ladies, chosen to stand beside a Lord in public while knowing almost nothing about the rituals, violence, and debts that rule his life.

The Ritual opens the door through Blakely, a senator’s daughter who becomes Ryat Alexander Archer’s chosen one. What begins as a bargain for freedom drops her into a life where being paraded as a trophy is safer than refusing to play along, and where survival means learning which monsters you can live with.

Each subsequent book takes a different angle on that universe. The Sinner follows Sin, a Lord who grew up with the heroine and uses his influence in terrible ways long before he realizes what she really means to him. The Sacrifice throws a sheltered Lady into a revenge marriage with Tyson Crawford, a man who sees her as a debt to be collected. Carnage and Madness push the world even darker, introducing a prison built for disobedient Lords and the Spade brother who runs it, along with the women who refuse to stay broken.

An upcoming installment, Chaotic, returns to the Lords’ orbit through a heroine who thought she had finally clawed her way out, only to discover one Spade brother has other plans for her freedom. Throughout the series, the tone stays brutal—heavy on ritual, obsession, and blurred consent—while still delivering intense, twisted love stories that slot together into one continuous timeline.

It’s a universe for readers who like their romances over the top, morally messy, and soaked in secrets.
