Series background & context
Scouts of the Georgia Frontier is a connected historical-romance series set during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The books visit a Georgia borderland shaped by forts, militia service, shifting alliances, and the danger of travel through contested territory. Each novel focuses on a different couple, while the larger series returns to the people who defend their homes and communities in uncertain times.
The opening novel, A Counterfeit Betrothal, takes place in 1813 near Creek Territory. Scout Jared Lockridge hopes his service will help him repair his family’s reputation and prepare for a settled future. Instead, he finds Esther Andrews after violence destroys her home. Recently freed from a cruel marriage, Esther joins Jared’s family for the winter and begins a slow process of healing. Trouble along the frontier keeps the stakes high.
Peace is never guaranteed here.
A Courageous Betrothal shifts back to the American Revolution. Jenny White is determined to protect her younger siblings in Georgia’s so-called Hornet’s Nest. After she nurses injured lieutenant Caylan McIntosh following the Battle of Kettle Creek, the two are drawn together. When British forces push into Georgia, their journey toward safety tests both devotion and the secrets Caylan has kept.
In A Cherished Betrothal, Patriot ranger Alexander Morris meets Elspeth Lawrence again years after the Long Canes massacre changed both their lives. Elspeth’s work at her father’s Cherokee mission and Alexander’s duty at Fort Charlotte put them near a plot that could ruin fragile talks with Cherokee leaders. The book deals with memory, forgiveness, and the pull between revenge and trust.
The later books continue to explore divided loyalties. A Conflicted Betrothal follows King’s Ranger Ansel Anderson and Temperance Scott amid Stamp Act unrest and political intrigue in Savannah. A Calculated Betrothal pairs Loyalist widow Tabitha Gage with Patriot scout Edmond Lassiter as the Revolution reaches South Georgia. Their practical partnership is complicated by property disputes, invasion threats, and the divide between their allegiances.
These are faith-centered frontier romances, but the history is part of the engine of every story. Characters have to make choices under pressure, often while facing prejudice, violence, and family expectations. The books work as individual love stories, yet they are richer in order because the series builds a wider picture of Georgia’s early history. Begin with A Counterfeit Betrothal, then follow the publication order for the changing eras and couples.
