Scavenger Hunting Books in Order

Scavenger Hunting is one of L.L. Muir's more overtly playful historical setups. The first book, Kilt Trip, tells you almost everything you need to know about the mood. This is a serial-style adventure romance, broken into parts, built on dares, travel, and the terrible decisions people make when they think one last bit of fun cannot possibly reshape their whole future.

Of course it can.

The opening premise is great: in 1704, three English brides-to-be sneak into Scotland for a scavenger hunt as a final adventure before marriage. Each woman wants something different from the game, whether that is treasure, a love token, or one last act of rebellion before being handed over to a dreadful future. On the other side are the Scots charged with finding and protecting them, men who are entirely unsuited to the task in all the ways that make romance possible.

That tension is the series' best feature.

The women are not simply tourists in danger. They are actively pushing against the lives laid out for them. The men are not just braw Highland decoration. They have duties, debts, and their own reasons for wanting distance, especially from Englishwomen. So when the plot forces them together, it is not just attraction doing the work. It is conflict, pride, and the gradual realization that everybody involved may want a different life than the one already waiting for them.

The serial format matters too. Muir openly built Kilt Trip in episodes, which gives the story a pulpy, cliffhanger rhythm. That is useful to know going in. The pleasure here is in motion: one challenge leads to another, one argument leads to another, and one romantic problem barely gets settled before a practical danger arrives to replace it.

Then Pirate Trip carries that same sense of adventure into a new direction. Even without unpacking every turn, the title alone signals that the series is happy to widen its historical playground and keep the mix of travel, danger, and romantic chaos moving.

So if you want Muir at her most swashbuckling, this is a good shelf to browse. The books trade some of the deeper paranormal melancholy of her Scottish ghost stories for bright adventure energy, banter, and the sense that love has a habit of showing up in the middle of a game everyone thought they could control.
