Scary Tales Books in Order

Scary Tales is Danielle Norman stepping away from straight romance and having real fun with cozy mystery. The books are set in Poultry, Georgia, a small town where gossip moves fast, everybody seems to know everybody else, and trouble keeps landing in Paige Turner's path. Paige wants more excitement than bookstore errands and quiet days can give her, but the excitement she gets usually comes with a body, a suspect list, and a very long day.

She is not handling any of it alone. Paige shares the page with her grandmother Dottie, and Dottie is the kind of woman who can turn a normal afternoon into chaos in minutes. One minute she is chasing a new hobby, the next she is pushing herself right into the middle of an investigation that any sensible person would leave to the police. Their banter gives the series its spark. Paige may be the younger woman, but Dottie is often the one with the bigger appetite for trouble.

Eli, the local cop, adds the series' romantic thread. He knows Paige has a gift for ending up too close to danger. Paige knows Eli would prefer a little less helping and a little more staying out of the way. Naturally, that is not how these stories go. The relationship stays part of the appeal, but the books never lose sight of the mystery first.

The fairy tale angle is what really makes this series stand out. Poisonly Ever After and Once Upon a Murder borrow shapes and echoes from familiar stories, then drop them into a modern Georgia town full of messy motives, oddball suspects, and people who are not nearly as innocent as they look. That gives the books a playful hook without turning them into fantasy. These are still whodunits, just with a wink.

If you like cozy mysteries with a bookstore, a loyal dog, a quirky town, and a heroine who cannot leave well enough alone, this series is easy to settle into. The books are quick, chatty, and built around character as much as clues. Norman keeps the stakes real, but the tone warm and funny. What carries the series from one case to the next is not just who did it, it is the pleasure of spending more time with Paige, Dottie, and the strange little world around them.
