Author bio

Sam Sisavath lives in the American Southwest and writes horror, science fiction, and thrillers. His books tend to begin with a bad situation and then make it steadily worse for the people stuck inside it. That pressure, and the way his characters keep moving anyway, is a big part of his appeal.

One of the clearest things he has said about his work is that he writes the kinds of books he wants to read. You can feel that all through the catalog. Whether he is writing about ghouls, serial killers, covert operators, or something ancient hiding in the dark, the stories are built to move fast and hit hard.

The series most readers meet first is The Purge of Babylon, which began in 2013 with a brutal end-of-the-world setup and then kept growing into a much larger universe. The Gates of Byzantium and The Stones of Angkor expanded that world, and later books carried it even further. Then came the follow-up Road to Babylon novels, which revisit the same ruined landscape years later and show what survival looks like after the first disaster has passed.

Chaos is his home turf.

But Sisavath has never stayed in just one lane. Hunter/Prey introduced Allie Krycek, a revenge-driven vigilante thrown into a vicious cat-and-mouse game. The Last Storm mixed a hurricane survival story with supernatural horror. The Freelancer shifted into globe-spanning action, bringing in Chance Mock, a fixer who can be a soldier, spy, assassin, or bodyguard depending on the job and the price. Even when the settings change, the engine stays familiar: danger, momentum, and characters forced to make ugly choices fast.

Readers usually come to Sisavath for that momentum. His books like hunted protagonists, improvised alliances, long odds, and last stands. They also like a little bite in the dialogue. Even in his darkest stories, somebody is usually still stubborn enough to crack a joke, ignore common sense, or keep fighting long after a wiser person would have given up.

That seems to line up with his public persona, too. He has described himself as a fan of post-apocalyptic books and movies, a heavy Red Bull drinker, and a loyal defender of Waterworld. It is a funny detail, but it also tracks. His fiction has the same affection for big danger, weird premises, rough survivors, and stories that refuse to apologize for being exciting.

He has also shown a real willingness to roam around inside genre fiction. Alongside the Babylon books, he has written the Red Sky conspiracy thrillers, the Buechele novel Proof of Death, the supernatural Last Hunters series, and shorter side projects like Steve. More recently he has kept widening the map with books in the Mona Run and SHTF lines.

He usually comes back to the same question from different angles: what happens when the rules disappear and survival gets personal?

His answer is rarely neat, but it is almost always entertaining.
