2020

Blood Rule

by Orlando A Sanchez

2020

The trilogy drives toward open conflict as the struggle for control reaches a breaking point. In a world ruled by blood, survival and authority are never separate problems.

Series background & context

This series shifts the focus toward power, hierarchy, and survival inside the vampire side of Sanchez's supernatural world. The key figure is Michiko Nakatomi, a long-serving council leader trying to hold together an uneasy peace while enemies, ambition, and old blood feuds close in.

That makes the books feel more political than many of his detective-led stories. The action is still there, but the tension also comes from succession, betrayal, who can be trusted, and what happens when the people making the rules are no longer strong enough to enforce them.

Or willing to.

The trilogy titles tell their own story. Blood Ascension, Blood Betrayal, and Blood Rule all point toward a struggle over authority as much as survival. That is a good fit for a world where age, power, lineage, and fear all matter at the same time.

If you like the council politics in the Montague books and want more time in that part of the world, this is the series to read. It keeps the supernatural stakes high, but lets the court-and-council side of the setting take center stage.
