Brew & Chew
by Orlando A Sanchez
2025
When Peaches loses the bond he shares with Simon, he knows something is wrong. Alongside a child mage, her guardian, and a dragon, he charges into a rescue with hunger and chaos in equal measure.
Series background & context
Brew & Chew spins out of the larger Montague and Strong world, but it has its own flavor. The focus shifts toward Peaches, Simon Strong's hellhound, and that changes the mood in a fun way. The stakes are still real. The threats are still supernatural. But the series has more bounce, more chaos, and a little more gleeful absurdity.
The core idea is wonderfully simple. When Peaches senses something is wrong, he does not sit still and wait for the humans to explain it. He acts. In the opening setup, his bond with Simon is interrupted, and that sends him into action with an unlikely group that includes a child mage, a fierce protector, and a dragon with opinions.
That is a very good start for a Sanchez series.
What follows is urban fantasy with a side of comic timing. The books still use danger, pursuit, and magical complications, but they let Peaches' appetite, instincts, and infernal nature drive the plot in a different way from the main detective novels. The result feels lighter on its feet without losing the sense that bad things can happen if this team gets it wrong.
If you like side adventures that deepen a bigger universe, this is a good corner of his catalog to visit. It keeps the heart of the Montague world, but lets one of its most memorable characters cause the kind of trouble only a hellhound can.
