Series background & context
The Royal Hearts Academy series drops you into a world where family name matters almost as much as money, and both matter a lot. The books are set around Royal Hearts Academy and the wealthy Royal Manor crowd orbiting it, but the real engine of the series is the Covington family. Each installment follows a different romance, yet the books are tied together by shared history, old wounds, and a social order built on power and reputation.
Cruel Prince starts the series with Dylan returning to Royal Manor and being forced back into Jace Covington's orbit. He was once her first friend, first crush, and first kiss. Now he is cruel, angry, and determined to make her life miserable. That first book sets the emotional template for the series: heavy history, public humiliation, raw attraction, and characters who are not interested in behaving nicely just because love is involved.
Ruthless Knight shifts focus to Jace's brother, Cole Covington, the school's golden boy quarterback, and Sawyer Church, the girl everybody underestimates. Their book plays with image in a different way. Cole looks untouchable from the outside, while Sawyer is treated like the sweet, nerdy outsider. Ashley Jade uses that contrast well, because both of them are carrying more pain than their labels suggest, and the fake-girlfriend setup gives their story a strong push-pull rhythm.
The school matters, but the family drama matters more.
That becomes even clearer in Bianca's books, Wicked Princess and Broken Kingdom. Bianca enters the series with a vicious reputation, then wakes up in Wicked Princess without memories of the terrible things everyone says she did. The last two books move beyond simple bully-romance beats and into something more fractured and soapier, with lost memory, shifting loyalties, an engagement to one man, and a history with another that refuses to stay buried. Broken Kingdom brings Bianca's story to its full second-chance conclusion and ties the emotional threads of the larger family arc together.
Across the series, Ashley Jade mixes high school and new adult energy with dark romance edges. These are dramatic books, full of secrets, cruelty, status games, trauma, and intense chemistry. The characters are flawed on purpose. That is part of the appeal. So is the way each romance adds another angle to the same damaged family.
Even though each book centers a different couple, this is one of those series that works best in order. The relationships build on shared history, and later books hit harder when you already understand the Covington family, their losses, and the strange, toxic kingdom they have built around themselves.
