by Jenny Colgan

3

Sweetshop of Dreams

by Jenny Colgan

2012

Rosie Hopkins is stuck in London until she inherits a failing sweet shop in a small Derbyshire village. Moving north means learning the business, navigating small-town gossip, and opening her heart to a fresh start.

Series background & context

Rosie Hopkins thinks she is stuck, in a bad relationship, a dull job, and a London routine that does not feel like hers. Then a message from her great-aunt pulls her toward a small village in Derbyshire, and a sweet shop that needs saving.

Sweetshop of Dreams follows Rosie as she learns the business, meets the locals, and figures out whether she is brave enough to start over for real. The shop is full of nostalgia, but the problems are very current: money, trust, and the fear of getting it wrong.

The village will have an opinion about everything.

In Christmas at Rosie Hopkins' Sweet Shop, the first festive season in Lipton brings extra customers, extra family, and extra emotional baggage. Rosie is trying to keep the shop doors open while her personal life refuses to stay tidy.

The Christmas Surprise is a shorter return visit that checks in on Rosie and Stephen as they face a new set of grown-up questions, with the shop and the village still at the center.

If you like cozy small-town stories where food matters and community is part of the plot, this series is a good fit.
