Author bio

Robyn Wideman is a fantasy writer from British Columbia, Canada, whose books move comfortably between classic quest fantasy, LitRPG, and progression storytelling. Public author listings place his birthplace in Salmon Arm, and his own short bio notes place him in the interior of British Columbia, where he has written a steadily growing catalogue of adventure-heavy series.

He seems happiest when there is magic, danger, and a character who has to level up the hard way.

Wideman began publishing in 2015 with Son of Soron, the opening novel of the Stoneblood Saga. That early series set a pattern readers still recognize in his work now. Young heroes get pushed into trouble fast. Family history matters. Power has to be earned. And even when the worlds get big, the stories stay rooted in clear personal stakes.

His own author notes describe his range in simple terms: fantasy fiction that runs from teen high fantasy to LitRPG and GameLit, with a little urban fantasy and science fiction mixed in. That tracks with the books. Menacing Misfits leans into magic school adventure and dungeon crawling. Apocalypse Online turns an alien invasion into a system-driven survival story. Wandering Cultivator follows an alchemy student who gives up the safe road to help his family.

He writes across a surprisingly wide patch of fantasy ground.

Some of his series are squarely young adult in feel, including Stoneblood Saga, Hanna Halfblood, and The Hunter's Dragon. Others lean harder into progression fantasy and game mechanics, like New Realm Online, Monster Tamer Academy, Seared, and Apocalypse Online. The tone shifts from series to series, but the through line is easy to spot: brisk pacing, readable prose, and a steady sense that the next challenge is always close.

Wideman also collaborates often. Different corners of his bibliography include work with Shannon Wideman, Waldo Rodriguez, Alex Mathys, Matt Herrmann, Cooper Wai, and J.K. Daniels. Even with those partnerships, the books still feel related. Readers who move from one series to another will usually find the same fondness for underdogs, practical problem-solving, and characters who grow stronger a little at a time.

That steady growth matters a lot in his fiction. He likes students, deckhands, thieves, gamers, cultivators, and kids from rough starts. He likes dungeons, academies, guilds, monster bonds, and broken worlds that can maybe be rebuilt. Even when the setup changes, the stories usually reward persistence more than raw destiny.

Off the page, his public bio stays pretty low-key. He has described himself as a sports junkie, with the Toronto Raptors as his main team, and has said he caught the travel bug in recent years. He keeps the spotlight on the books rather than on himself.

That contrast feels about right. Quiet author, busy worlds.
