Author bio
Robin Patchen writes Christian romantic suspense that blends page turning danger with small, very human moments of grace. Born in New Mexico and raised in a small New Hampshire town, she grew up surrounded by the forests, rocky coastlines, and changing seasons that now show up so often in her fictional settings. Today she makes her home in central Texas, but New England still shapes many of her stories.
As a teenager, she was the girl on the twin bed with a notebook, trying to figure out how to put the stories in her head onto paper. That early love of words led her to Boston, where she earned a journalism degree and learned how to write clearly and quickly on deadline. After college she worked in marketing and public relations, turning out press releases and ad copy instead of novels. The work paid the bills, but the routine of a strict office schedule made it clear that a traditional nine to five career was not where her heart lived.
A move to the Southwest, marriage, and three children shifted her focus for a season. While she homeschooled her kids, the dream of writing fiction simmered quietly in the background. Around the time she turned forty, her husband gave her a laptop for her birthday and she finally decided to try. The result was a sprawling seven hundred page manuscript she freely admits was terrible, but finishing it showed her that telling long, made up stories was exactly what she wanted to do.
Her first published work, the Christmas novella One Christmas Eve, introduced readers to her mix of holiday warmth and real world pain. Not long after came Finding Amanda, a novel about a fractured marriage and long buried abuse that would go on to win the Lyra Award for women’s fiction and become a finalist for a major Christian fiction prize. From there, her bibliography grew to include multiple series and dozens of books, many of them connected through shared towns and families.
Patchen’s Nutfield Saga and Hidden Truths books revolve around a fictional New Hampshire town where charming streets hide organized crime, human trafficking, and families marked by betrayal. The Coventry Saga shifts to a nearby tourist community tucked between mountains and a lake, a place where kidnappings, political corruption, and cold cases push everyday people into heroic choices. Her Wright Heroes of Maine series moves the action to the rocky coast, following an extended family of protectors facing terrorists, smugglers, stalkers, and their own complicated histories.
Across those different backdrops, certain themes show up again and again. Her characters often carry heavy secrets, whether a prison record, an addiction, or a past mistake that still shapes how others see them. Many of her stories explore second chances in relationships, the slow rebuilding of trust, and the hard work of forgiveness rather than simple happily ever afters. Faith is always present, sometimes as a quiet undercurrent and sometimes as a crisis point, but never as an easy shortcut around real pain.
In addition to writing, Patchen works as a freelance editor and writing coach, helping other authors sharpen their stories. Years of shaping her own novels and working with publishers have given her a strong sense of pacing, structure, and reader expectations, and she enjoys passing that on. Editing lets her spend even more time with those twenty six letters she jokes her life revolves around.
When she is not at her desk, she is usually doing something grounded and ordinary, cooking for her family, working a puzzle, reading for pleasure, or planning the next trip she hopes to take. Travel is still a dream she nurtures, even if most days find her in Texas instead of a sidewalk cafe in some far off city.
Whether the setting is a snow covered New England town, a quiet Maine harbor, or a European museum, Patchen’s stories tend to come back to the same core idea, that even in dangerous, messy circumstances, no one is beyond the reach of grace, and no life is too tangled to be redeemed.
