All Night with the Cowboy

by Soraya M Lane

2018

In the second River Ranch novel, a straight laced heroine finds herself constantly thrown together with a hard living cowboy whose late nights and guarded heart clash with her tidy plans. Long days on the ranch turn friction into chemistry they can no longer ignore.

Series background & context

The River Ranch series is Lane’s big canvas contemporary Western saga, set on a sprawling Texas cattle empire owned by the Ford family. The ranch is worth a fortune, but what keeps it running is grit, early mornings and a tight knit group of siblings who would rather be in the saddle than in a boardroom.

Each book focuses on a different member of the Ford clan or someone drawn into their orbit, mixing old money, modern problems and plenty of time out under the wide sky. In Cowboy Stole My Heart, horsewoman Mia Ford is both heiress and hands on boss. She hires quiet, capable trainer Sam Mendes to work with a troubled stallion and quickly finds that her long standing crush on him is getting harder to ignore. Their romance is tangled up with business decisions and the expectations that come with being “Texas royalty”.

All Night with the Cowboy turns the spotlight to another Ford sibling and a cowboy whose wild past has left bruises he is not eager to show. A more buttoned up heroine, used to planning her life down to the last detail, finds herself thrown together with this night owl ranch hand, and the sparks between them force both of them to question what they really want.

In Once Upon a Cowboy Christmas, Lane leans into holiday warmth. A gruff cowboy who has never quite learned how to slow down ends up sharing his home with someone from his past as a winter storm rolls in. Snow, family traditions and old memories combine to crack through his defences and give both characters a fresh look at what home could mean.

My One True Cowboy looks at the Ford family from a slightly different angle, following a brawny ex soldier who comes back from active duty to take on a bigger role at River Ranch. Haunted by what he has seen and accompanied by his retired military dog, he reconnects with a woman who has been in his life for years. Their story is about learning to talk honestly, asking for support and trusting that love can survive even the hardest seasons.

What ties the series together is a balance of glamour and hard work. The Fords might own a billion dollar ranch, but every book takes time to show the daily chores, the risks of breeding and training animals and the way staff, family and friends blur together out there. Siblings tease, argue and show up when it counts.

Readers who enjoy modern cowboy romances with a little extra family drama will feel at home at River Ranch. The books can stand alone, yet they reward you for reading in order as relationships deepen and the wider Ford story quietly unfolds in the background.
