Series background & context

Rising Storm is a small-town serialized drama set in Storm, Texas, after a hurricane changes the landscape and cracks open long-held secrets. The books read like a romance-soap hybrid, with cliffhangers, shifting alliances, and relationships that can’t avoid the fallout.

Kenner helped create the series with Dee Davis, and the shared-world structure means the town itself is the main character. Everyone has history, and everybody knows everybody else’s business, or thinks they do.

Storm doesn’t let you start over quietly.

The early episodes, including Tempest Rising, lay out the core tensions: love triangles, betrayals, family pressure, and the kind of secrets that don’t stay buried when the power is out and the roads are washed away.

Because it’s designed as an ongoing serial, the best experience is to read in order. Each installment resolves some questions and raises new ones, building toward bigger confrontations.

If you like small-town drama with romance at the center, and you enjoy stories that feel episodic and bingeable, Rising Storm is a fun rabbit hole to fall into.
