Return of the Highlanders is a later Highland series that leans hard into lost histories, wounded heroes, and the idea that home is never as simple as going back to where you started. Questions of revenge, survival, and clan truth keep pushing against the romance. But the payoff is strong because when these people do choose each other, it never feels casual.

If you like Highland romance with secrets, mercenary plots, old grudges, and couples who have to earn trust the slow way, Return of the Highlanders is a strong pick. It keeps the emotional core of Johnstone's medieval books while giving the whole thing a more haunted edge.
