Author bio
Renee George writes paranormal mysteries and romances with dogs, witches, shifters, and women who do not politely step aside when life gets weird. She is a USA Today bestselling author, and her books tend to mix murder, magic, romance, and jokes about the mess of real life.
Public biographical details about George are fairly light, but her books give a clear sense of what she enjoys. Oddball towns. Loyal friends. Strange gifts. Pet chaos. She has described herself as someone who loves all things whodunit, otherworldly, and weird, which is probably the shortest possible guide to her fiction.
Her path to writing does not seem to have been a straight one. Before settling into her life as a novelist, she worked a long list of jobs, including medic, nurse, website designer, small press editor, artist, and teacher. That range shows up in the books. Even when the setup is magical, the characters still worry about ordinary things like work, family, heartbreak, aging, money, and whether they can survive one more terrible day with their dignity intact.
Then came the books.
Her early novel Ultimate Evil was followed by a growing shelf of paranormal romance and cozy mystery, and over time she built several reader favorite series. You've Got Tail throws a psychic heroine into a shifter town full of secrets. Pit Perfect Murder pairs a werecougar sleuth with a dog-loving mystery. Sense and Scent Ability gives a woman over fifty a psychic gift linked to smell, which is as inconvenient as it sounds. Earth Spells Are Easy leans into midlife witch chaos, while Witchin' Impossible shows how much fun George can have with a murder, a familiar, and a very strange small town.
Midlife is one of her sweet spots.
That is part of what makes her work stand out. George often writes women who already have some miles on them. They are divorced, widowed, tired, funny, underestimated, or simply done with nonsense. Her books still make room for romance, but they also care about friendship, chosen family, and the plain stubbornness it takes to start over when life did not ask your permission first.
Animals matter too, and not just as cute extras. Dogs, especially pit bulls and other loyal sidekicks, show up again and again in her stories. On her author page, she jokes about wishing her pittie Kona and corgi mix Velma could talk, or at least help her unmask villains like Scooby-Doo. That affection carries into the fiction, where pets are often part of the emotional center, not just the scenery.
She also sounds refreshingly honest about ordinary life. George lives in Missouri with her family, makes pottery, watches TV, and cleans up after pets. She has also written about taking in cats named Simon and Ash, who seem to have adopted her as much as the other way around.
That balance is a big part of the appeal. Renee George writes about magic, monsters, and murder, but she keeps the people recognizable. Her heroines worry, joke, improvise, and get back up. In her world, the supernatural is real, but so are bad exes, family baggage, and the need for good friends, strong coffee, and maybe a dog at your side.
