Series background & context

The Regret Duet is a two-book romantic suspense story centered on Hadley and Caven Hunt. Written with Regret begins their story, and Written with You continues it from Caven's side. These are not separate standalones. The two books tell one larger, deeply connected story and should be read in order.

Hadley first meets Caven as a child, when he saves her from abuse. That act leaves a lasting mark on both of them, though it does not give either one a simple life. Years later, a one-night encounter between them results in a daughter. Hadley eventually leaves the child in Caven's care, convinced that staying away is the best way she can protect her.

That choice drives the first book.

In Written with Regret, Hadley returns after years apart and must face Caven again, along with the little girl who has grown up without her. The story is built around big questions of trust, parenthood, survival, and whether a person can come back after making an impossible decision. Hadley is not looking for an easy welcome, and Caven has no reason to offer one.

Written with You widens the view by giving Caven's past and his role as a father more space. A bullet changed his life when he was fifteen, and he has spent years trying to build enough power and distance to keep old pain from reaching him. Finding a newborn on his doorstep changes his plans again. When Hadley returns four years later, Caven is determined to protect his daughter, even if that means fighting the woman he has never fully forgotten.

Their daughter is the heart of the duet.

The suspense elements come from the characters' histories and the danger still surrounding them, but the emotional stakes are just as important. Both books show how trauma can shape a person's choices long after the immediate crisis is over. The romance is intense because Hadley and Caven have history, unfinished feelings, and very different ideas about what safety looks like.

Readers should start with Written with Regret and move directly to Written with You. The first book establishes the family, the separation, and the questions surrounding Hadley's return. The second delivers the other side of the story and carries the couple toward answers without treating their past as something easily fixed.
