Because the series is interconnected rather than tightly serialized, it is easy to dip in without feeling lost. Still, there is a nice payoff to reading Redefining Us before Forget You Not. The emotional world feels richer when you can see how Rae is building her favorite kind of romance, one where the love story is not just about attraction, but about whether two people can be honest enough to stay.

Compared with some of her later, more overtly small-town or trope-forward books, Reclusive feels a little rawer and more intimate. These are not glossy, easygoing romances. They are about people carrying pain and trying to figure out if connection is still worth the risk. If that sounds good to you, this is a strong place to start with her earlier work.
