Series background & context
Reapers of the Grimm Brotherhood is the new branding for Kel Carpenter and Meg Anne's reaper trilogy, now packaged with tongue in cheek titles that highlight just how chaotic Salem's life has become. If you see Hunting Werewolves and Other Bad Dates, Stalking Reapers and Other Failed Dates and Battling Monsters and Other F'd Up Dates, you are in the right place.
The story still begins the same way, Salem heads back to her hometown after her twin brother's death, dies in a supernatural car crash on the way there and wakes up inconveniently not dead. Instead of moving on, she's dragged into the orbit of Graves, her brother's brooding best friend, and the reaper society that polices Farrow's Square from the shadows.
Through Hunting Werewolves and Other Bad Dates Salem learns that half her neighbors are monsters, that the Grimm Brotherhood is real and that someone murdered her brother on purpose. Her attempts to get answers involve a lot of coffee, questionable stakeouts and trying very hard not to fall for the grumpy reaper who keeps saving her.
In Stalking Reapers and Other Failed Dates the mystery deepens when Salem tracks down her brother's killer by dying again. Cheating death twice is not normal even by reaper standards, and ghosts insist there is something different about her. While she tries to untangle what she is, the town's supernatural politics spin further out of control.
Battling Monsters and Other F'd Up Dates brings in bigger revelations, long-lost family, the true scope of her connection to Death and the council whose infighting could tip the whole region into chaos. Salem has to juggle new powers, a looming war and her feelings for Graves while figuring out whether she wants to be Death's daughter in truth.
This edition leans into the comedic side of the series, the food cravings, bad dates and sarcastic inner monologue, without losing the emotional core of grief, found family and taking ownership of who you are. If you picked up the books under their original Grimm Brotherhood titles, you have already met these characters. New readers can jump in here and experience the full arc in order with the updated covers and names.
