Series background & context

Psychic CORE takes one of the most memorable pieces of Mason's larger CORE world and puts it front and center. Instead of following a different investigator each time, this series stays with Celeste Kain, the clairvoyant first introduced in Shadow of Danger. By the time these books begin, she is married to John Kain, raising a young daughter, and trying to build a normal life. The problem is that the dead keep showing up and asking for help.

That tension, normal life versus impossible gift, is what gives the series its shape. In Celeste Files: Unlocked, Celeste's long-buried visions return after years of silence. Celeste Files: Unjust turns a Florida vacation into a ghost story with real teeth. Celeste Files: Unforgotten sends Celeste after answers in a heartbreaking child abduction case. Later books escalate the danger with a haunted house, possession, and a kidnapping tied to her family's past.

Celeste is what makes these stories work. She is not a remote, all-knowing psychic floating above the action. She is a wife, mother, baker, and woman who would often rather be left alone. Her gift frightens her, exhausts her, and keeps pulling her toward people and spirits in pain. That makes the supernatural parts feel grounded. The ghosts are scary, but the family stakes are what really drive the books.

The dead do not leave Celeste alone.

John, their daughter Olivia, and the larger CORE circle matter a lot here, too. This is still part of the same connected world, so readers get both paranormal suspense and the comfort of recurring relationships. The books build on one another more directly than some of the other CORE branches, especially as Celeste's family becomes a bigger part of the danger.

Expect a mix of ghost story, mystery, and romantic suspense. There are malevolent spirits, psychic visions, trapped souls, and villains who are very much alive and just as dangerous. If you like paranormal elements but still want strong relationship threads and an ongoing family arc, this is one of Mason's most distinctive series.
