Planting Faith Books in Order

The Planting Faith series follows the early spread of Christianity through the cities visited by the apostle Paul. Rather than making Paul the sole focus, Carole Towriss builds each novel around people whose lives are changed, challenged, or turned upside down as his message reaches their community.

The series begins in first-century Philippi with Sold Into Freedom. Elantia, called Tia, is taken from her home in Britannia and sold into slavery in Macedonia. Quintus Valerius, a wounded former tribune, has been pushed out of the army and reluctantly becomes the keeper of Philippi's prison. Both are carrying anger, loss, and plans for a different future when Paulos arrives in town preaching peace and freedom.

Their paths meet at a dangerous moment.

The setting matters as much as the plot. Philippi is a Roman colony shaped by rank, military power, slavery, and public reputation. Tia and Quintus come at that world from very different positions, yet both must decide whether they can trust a freedom that asks them to let go of the identities and revenge they have held onto.

More than Conquerors moves southwest to Thessalonike in about 50 AD, after Paul, Silas, and Timothy have spent time in Philippi. Kassandra is the privileged daughter of a leading city official, but her concern for people with far less security puts her at odds with the future her father has planned. Jason, who hosts Paul and his companions, is grieving and under pressure as influential opponents threaten the life he has built.

Here, faith has public consequences. Paulos's teaching unsettles the synagogue and the city, and both Kassandra and Jason have to weigh family duty, safety, wealth, and standing against the pull of a new belief.

These are biblical novels with a strong human scale. Readers can expect Roman and Greek settings, carefully imagined daily life, characters drawn from a few lines of Scripture, and fictional characters who make the historical events feel close at hand. The books are connected by Paul's journey and the formation of new churches, while each gives a different city and set of characters room to lead the story.
