Series background & context

Paws and Poltergeists opens with Celeste being sentenced to community service for a crime she did not commit. Instead of litter duty, she gets driven to Silverwood to help a community of dead people that only she can see. If that were not enough, the ghost of her childhood dog, Fluke, turns up ready to help solve the case.

That is a very good hook.

The series leans into the animal side of paranormal cozy mystery in the best way. Fluke is not just decoration or comic relief. He is an active part of the investigations, following scents, nudging Celeste toward clues, and giving the books a warm emotional center. Around them, Silverwood is full of restless spirits, local grudges, and living suspects who do not appreciate questions.

Webb keeps the tone playful, but Celeste's setup gives the series a nice underdog feel. She is dropped into a bizarre job, expected to cope with the dead, and still has to work out who she can trust. The cases tend to mix ghostly interference with very human motives, which helps the books stay grounded even when things get weird.

If you want a paranormal mystery with strong pet energy, a sympathetic heroine, and a town where the dead are every bit as nosy as the living, Paws and Poltergeists is an easy recommendation.
