Series background & context

Out of the Cage is where Lane Hart takes her fight-world romance darker. These books are still built around MMA, but not the cleaner, higher-profile version from Cocky Cage Fighter. Here the fights are underground, the money is dirtier, and organized crime sits much closer to the center of the story.

The heroes, Cain, Ivan, and Knox, are tied together by shared history as much as by the ring. They are men shaped by violence, survival, and a world that taught them early not to expect much from life. That gives the series a heavier feel. Romance still matters, but it has to fight its way through mafia pressure, criminal loyalties, and past trauma first.

Each book focuses on a different man, so you get a distinct couple and a fresh emotional angle every time. Cain leans into friends-to-lovers tension. Ivan pulls the crime-world stakes closer with a heroine tied to the mafia. Knox shifts the energy again with an older-woman, opposites-attract pairing. Even when the romances differ, the books all share the same feeling that these men are trying to build something real in a life designed to tear it down.

This series is smaller than some of Hart's others, but it is one of the clearest examples of her romantic suspense side. If you like underground fight scenes, rough heroes, and romances that grow in the middle of criminal danger, Out of the Cage is worth the trip.
