Series background & context

New York City Mafia is one of Lane Hart's darker contemporary romance series, and it makes full use of its setting. These books are built around power, reputation, and the fact that in a city run by mafia families, personal mistakes can become public disasters very quickly.

The series begins with Filthy Little Games, which introduces a woman trapped in a nightmare and a man powerful enough to decide whether she lives, disappears, or becomes his. That opening book sets the tone for everything that follows. This is a world of witnesses who know too much, marriages that begin as strategy, family alliances that cost more than anyone admits, and heroes who are dangerous even when they are trying to protect someone.

What gives the series its pull is the combination of ongoing fallout and different romantic setups. One book might use a forced marriage or survival bargain. Another turns to obsession, fake tenderness, or secrets that could start a war inside the city. The couples change, but the five-family tension and the criminal consequences keep linking the books together.

These are dark romances first, not crime novels with a love story attached. The focus stays on the couple, the push and pull of fear and desire, and the question of how love can exist inside a system built on violence and control. Readers who like mafia romance with strong atmosphere, ruthless heroes, and ongoing family power struggles should feel right at home.
