Series background & context
Nuclear Dawn asks what might happen if a coordinated nuclear attack struck the United States with almost no warning. In a matter of minutes, multiple cities—including Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C.—are hit, skyscrapers collapse, and radioactive fallout begins to drift on the wind.
Surviving the blast is only the beginning.
The series opens with Point of Impact, where tough, guarded Dakota Sloane and haunted bartender Logan Garcia are strangers sharing a drink in Miami when the first detonations are announced on the news. Moments later, their own city erupts. As buildings burn and sirens fail, Dakota heads for a secret safe house in the Everglades, dragging a reluctant Logan into a fight neither of them expected.
In Fear the Fallout and From the Ashes, the immediate firestorms give way to the slower horror of radiation sickness, displacement, and government overload. Miami becomes a hot zone; freeways clog with refugees; and emergency camps overflow with hungry, frightened people. Dakota and Logan, already contaminated, struggle to reach medical help at the airport while gangs, vigilantes, and shadowy operatives hunt them for reasons that go beyond simple survival.
Into the Fire finally brings them to the remote swamp cabin that was supposed to be their salvation. Instead they find it threatened by a ruthless survivalist group and by a larger conspiracy moving in the background. The Everglades—sawgrass, gators, and all—turn into a battleground where defending one small patch of ground means defending the future they're trying to build.
The finale, Darkest Night, makes clear that the first wave of bombs was only the beginning. Dakota uncovers who orchestrated the attacks and learns that an even deadlier strike may be coming. With their found family at risk and a shattered nation watching, she and Logan are forced into a last-chance mission that could stop the destruction—or guarantee it.
Throughout Nuclear Dawn, the science of fallout and infrastructure failure is always present, but it never overwhelms the people at the story's core. Stone follows ordinary characters pushed into extraordinary roles, explores the thin line between preparation and paranoia, and keeps circling back to the question of how far you'll go—and who you'll become—to save the people you love.
