The Naitabal mysteries are children's adventures built around a group of young friends who are quick to notice when something is not right. In Wake Up, It's Midnight!, the children are troubled by the unmoving Mr. Maynard and night-time activity around his lonely home. Behind Locked Doors concerns Mrs. Hooper, a neighbor who has shut herself away for two decades. The mystery is not only what lies inside her house, but why she has lived that way for so long.

The series also takes the Naitabals farther afield. Wild Woods, Dark Secret sends them to Mr. Blake's remote country house, where his disappearance and the threatening woods make a promised holiday anything but relaxing. Ghost Island begins with a puzzling newspaper advertisement and leads toward a case that has remained unsolved for fourteen years. In Dead Man's Chest, Jayne spots a face at an apparently deserted cottage in Gray's Wood, and a small chest marked with pirate figures becomes part of the trail.

The Secret of Stranglehold Hall gives the group a bigger historical puzzle. Seven elderly sisters need help protecting an old house and uncovering a secret designed to pass through generations. Across the books, the tone stays lively and slightly spooky without losing sight of friendship, curiosity, and the pleasure of working out a clue before someone else does.

Start with Danger, Keep Out! for the clearest introduction to the group and their style of mystery. From there, each case brings a new setting, a new secret, and another reason for the Naitabals to start asking questions.
