Her life changes for good when she crosses paths with Mr. Bixby, a saucy dachshund who has quite literally come back from the dead. In the prequel I Want You to Haunt Me, Janelle is on a supposedly low key vacation when a jewelry store heist and a murder leave her framed and on the run once again. The only ally who truly understands what is happening is Bixby, a ghost dog who talks, jokes and refuses to let her hide from her own power.
In You Can't Always Get What You Haunt, Janelle tries to settle in Wyldwood Springs by opening a haunted jewelry and curiosities shop. The town is thick with magical crime, old grudges and opinionated spirits. When a body appears behind her shop and a family feud flares, she has to clear her name, find her missing mother and cope with a spectral dachshund who believes in her more than she believes in herself.
Later installments like Any Way You Haunt It and I Only Haunt to Be with You deepen the world. Janelle juggles running her store, decoding cryptic canine messages from visiting ghost dogs and dealing with a mayor who would rather her magic stayed neatly under control. Friends and enemies blur as she faces curses, haunted houses and villains who understand the Brighton legacy far too well.
