Meta Man is Vincent Zandri stepping into speculative thriller territory without losing his love of pulp momentum. The series follows Casey Smith, a man who should be dead and yet keeps waking up inside new versions of reality, a metaverse-like afterlife where each scenario drops him into another dangerous role.

That premise gives the books a lot of room to play.

In the first story, Casey wakes in an Old West version of Deadwood with Wyatt Earp on his trail. In later books, he turns up on a spacecraft bound for Mars, inside a distorted version of 2020, and even in Jerusalem at the time of Christ's crucifixion. The settings shift wildly, but the basic pressure stays the same, Casey has to survive a world he does not understand while carrying the baggage of the life he already blew.

The tone lands somewhere between time-travel thriller, metaphysical pulp, and Twilight Zone style what-if story. These are not hard-science novels. They are fast concept thrillers interested in fate, guilt, identity, and whether a man who made terrible choices gets any real chance to change.

Casey is a good anchor because he is not a clean hero. He was a writer, then a criminal, then a dead man with unfinished business. That gives the series a noir streak even when it moves into science fiction.

If you like short, high-concept thrillers that bounce between genres while keeping one damaged lead at the center, Meta Man is an easy series to sample.
