The Mayfield Family books are Regency romances linked by one very meddlesome idea. Lord Elliott Mayfield, convinced his relatives are heading toward the wrong kinds of matches, launches a so called marriage campaign meant to steer the next generation toward respectable marriages. It is a terrible plan in the best possible way. His heart is in the right place, but his scheme creates exactly the kind of emotional chaos that keeps a family series moving.

Each book follows a different couple, but the Mayfields stay close enough that earlier choices keep echoing forward. Promises and Primroses opens with widower Peter Mayfield and governess Julia Hollingsworth, while Elliott's unfinished history with Amelia adds a second romantic thread. Daisies and Devotion shifts to Timothy Mayfield, whose absurd checklist for the perfect wife blinds him to the woman already beside him. Rakes and Roses turns to Lady Sabrina and Harry Stillman, giving the series some of its sharpest tension around reputation, recovery, and trust. Love and Lavender closes the quartet with Hazel Stillman and Duncan Penhale, a pair who enter a practical marriage expecting logic to keep things tidy.

The setting is classic Regency England, but the books do more than move people through ballrooms. Country estates, London seasons, schools, inheritance questions, and working lives all matter here. Kilpack gives her characters social rules to work within, then asks what happens when those rules fail real people. A widow needs stability. A woman with a disability wants independence, not pity. A man with charm and bad habits has to decide whether he is capable of becoming someone reliable. Those kinds of pressures give the romances a little extra substance.

The tone is gentle and readable, but not flimsy. There is humor, banter, longing, and plenty of slow emotional realization, yet the series also makes room for grief, class tension, past hurt, and the long shadow of family mistakes. These are clean romances, but the feelings are not thin. Kilpack likes characters who have to examine themselves before they earn the relationship they want.

Another nice thing about Mayfield is that the books are connected without feeling trapped by one giant plot. Each romance has its own payoff, so readers can enter almost anywhere. Still, starting with Promises and Primroses gives the fullest picture of Elliott's campaign and the family web that ties everyone together. By the time you reach Love and Lavender, the pleasure is not only in the love story, but in seeing how the whole family has shifted.
