Mad Passions Books in Order

Mad Passions shows a darker, more gothic side of Eva Devon's storytelling, and it is closely linked to the work she has published as Maire Claremont. If most of her Regency romances feel bright with wit and social maneuvering, these books move into heavier weather. The era shifts, the mood deepens, and the danger becomes more intimate.

The first book, The Dark Lady, tells you exactly what kind of series this is. A man returns haunted by war and failure. A woman is locked away, silenced, and nearly erased. The romance grows out of rescue, memory, old feeling, and a fight against power used cruelly.

It is gothic, but not decorative gothic.

The atmosphere matters here. Devon uses confinement, secrets, illness, obsession, and the hard edges of Victorian respectability to give the stories real pressure. There is still desire, still longing, still the promise of a happy ending, but the route there is much more shadowed than in her lighter series.

If you enjoy historical romance with a gothic pulse, wounded characters, and a little more darkness in the room, Mad Passions is worth your time. It is still recognizably Devon in its emotional focus, but it shows how well she can handle shadows when she wants them.
